Scenes, Vol. 1 (EP)

by Mike Garrigan

1.
September 03:57
It reached critical mass in the fall of '74 The incredible task of walking straight out the door Pushed as a stranger Steel clips and papers An unbearable mask he tore and threw to the floor And the funhouse Is waking up from a black out the moment is good/wrong in a dead sound Watching you Sleep in peace And the summer Isn't quite gone But your number is flashing along And september Is everyday for me It seemed crazy to ask for a lift to the top of the hill Frantic and lost in a scurry to swallow the pill Broke every mirror Numb in the feelers Spiralling down to the deepest floor of the ocean

On the coldest winter nights There's a place I like to go Where lovers walk and sing Their kisses dusted by the snow And it's not too hard to find Up two blocks and turn in time To open up your heart And leave this brutal world behind. And, if I stray from you Will you wait for me On February street? In the absence of the sun It's awful hard to find a light. I get scared sometimes But I love you just the same. Will you walk with me tonight Through the shadows and the fear? Cupid's lost his way But spring is almost here. And, if I stray from you Will you wait for me On February street? It's always where we meet. Underneath the Valentine's charade Is love. And, if I stray from you Will you wait for me On February street?

When it's much too dark to panic I just close my eyes and wait for you Jack is burning through the matches and the static I just can't get there from here. And, it feels like I'm staring down the sun I radio forever Jack is running down the walls and the quiet rooms Shining far too loud to hear In the silence there's a party fading in and out Sorry, Jack, you lost. And, it feels like I'm staring down the sun I radio forever Do you think you can explain the change you know that's coming down? Do you think you can explain the change? Coming down
4.
Morning is here. He goes through the motions. He's just a simple man. Apart from the world With total devotion to his Simple, simple plan. And, the clock on the wall Is unusually small And his heart is a fool for a change. Secretly peculiar Brilliantly acquired Different and the same. Evening was there. He read it in the paper. Debates it as he can. Alone at the door, It feels like the millionth time He's just a simple man.
